This is very common with basement mildew mold, just be sure to maintain the carpeting and if one is going to replace the carpets make sure to remove the tack steps below. The wood on the tack created a great food source for mildew and mold. Always look into a building materials supplier that understands wood rot and damages caused by mold. If you have some amount of mold in the basement and on carpeting and are tired of cleaning it continuously spray it down with a organic mold cleaning.
Killing mold and mildew may be a never ending solution, just remember to use a mold blocker and cleaner to kill and prevent mold. Many cleaners will kill mold for a bit, but not prevent it from future growth. If the mold proble becomes a bigger issue always look into having a certified mold inspector or asbestos consultant

You call the health department, but count on moving.

The department will force you to move if what you are rudely screaming at us about is not exaggerated.

The landlord will if it isn’tm and this is just you wanting the 500 a month place to be just like the 1000 a month one.

It is mold as you have stated. A dilute bleach solution works pretty well but is not a permanent solution. Sunlight or removal of the moisture source is the better long term answer.

You can steam clean it. They sell them everywhere. Make sure you cover your floor below where you will clean it, then run a high powered steam fabric cleaner. Whatever that does not pick up (if the fabric isn’t delicate) run it through a cycle, then hang dry. Hope this helps.

For starters, when I moved in the bathroom sink leaked, and was leaking when we entered the apartment, it took 2 months and numerous threats to actually get this fixed, to make everything better recently discovered mold on one of the baseboards in my bathroom, upon removal of the baseboard I discovered that the entire section of the wall was molding/ deteriorating, this immediately brought up questions in my mind, my girlfriend an I have lived there since july, sine then we have been sick CONSTANTLY and I am at the brink of physical exhaustion even if I do nothing all day….on top of this my girlfriend is asthmatic and the use of her inhalers has not only tripled since our move in but she is now on ADVAIR which goes for approx $90 CDN per month, Now, I requested my landlord come and look at the mold one week ago he came in yesterday and said that the entire wall would most likely have to be removed…..
So, would this allow me to get out of the lease?

From what you said, the mold could be impacting you and your wife. You both need to move out as soon as possible. For your health you and your wife need to leave.

Legally you have the right to leave an apartment/house that is filled with mold. No one expects you to live there with the mold. Take pictures of the mold, document the consersations you’ve had with the landlord about the mold. Send the landlord a certified letter indicating you and your wife are moving out immediately because the mold is causing health problems.

You may want to file against the landlords health insurance since the mold is making you sick. Since the mold is impacting your heath and your wife’s health you need to seek out an attorney. This could cause long term effects. You need legal help. An attorney should be willing to take on your case for a percentage of the settlement.

Areas of mold (black and some gray) in a basement that flooded three times this spring. We’re working to fix the water problem. We’re planning to remodel anyway, so the old paneling isn’t a big loss, but I don’t want to release tons of mold spores into the air if they’re toxic. My inclination is to hire an independent testing lab, find out what type of mold we have, then use their remediation plan to hire a contractor to deal with it. Are we likely to have to clean it up first and THEN remove the damaged areas? Or is removal itself a viable means of solving the problem? Can a regular contractor do this? How much should I expect the testing to cost? If we’re not suffering from any clearly related physical problems now (it’s been there for months, I’d guess), will we need to vacate the house while remediation takes place? My husband wants to just hire a regular demolition crew to pull the paneling out, but I’m not comfortable going that route. Informed opinions appreciated.

we bought a home in which mold was detected – actually, the sellers kept something in front of a gaping, oozing black hole! the mold tested to be the most deadly black mold.

i would not do a lowe’s test – given the dangers, I agree with you that you need a mold remediation company to test and make a proposal. Our cost was 1100 for testing and remediation, including cleaning of all the house ducts and not including replacing drywall. i have to say the mold remediation folks who tore out the drywall didn’t even use masks. I don’t know if this is a lack of respect for their workers or because even the deadly black mold is not a huge problem.

I will say our regular contractor – who fixed the drywall – would have nothing to do with removing the moldy wall. We did not clean the wall before it was removed.

hello…. i have recently had a new bathroom fitted and have started to notice small black mould spots on some of the tiles… the tiles are not the smooth type they are textured so the mould seems to be ingrained in the tile how do i remove it i have tried the usual mould removal potions and a good scrub with a nail brush and bleach but this did not work.. can any one help me get rid of these black spots that seem to be growing in numbers… many thanks..

Try using neat bleach (as Domestos, Parazone). Wear good rubber gloves to do this. Is your bathroom unheated?, mould grows in damp conditions.
